Go West!

I am archiving older pieces I have written on other sites, making this the definitive home for all my work. This is one of several I am porting over from my GameDev.Net user journal. Enjoy!

Hello... testing? Does this still work?

*Ahem*

And so begins out Game Developers Conference 2005 odyssey. Yesterday, Friday May 4, on a whim I checked my flight details to San Francisco. I was sure my flight was on Sunday, so I'd have time on Saturday to run a few errands.

Departure: Saturday, May March 4, 2005 9:00 AM JFK

That set in motion a frenzied rush to finish my various pending projects (pretty good job, if I say so myself), organize my transportation (buddy's dropping me off at the airport) and pack. I'm all done, 15 minutes from leaving the house, so I figured I'd write in a little.

Why am I leaving so early, given that the conference doesn't start until Monday? Well, I'm being hosted by GameDev's own adventuredesign, and he and I will be brainstorming on a variety of media-related projects, quite a few of which may result in GDNet media properties, as well as hanging out. One of those ideas is a GDNet Podcast, and I've even got our first guest lined up. We'll be bouncing other such ideas and scenarios off each other all week long.

In addition, we need to do some writing for this year's GDC coverage. We've got some really good stuff planned for you, and while it may be a tad bit awkward, being first time and all, I think it'll be an indicator of what's to come in the future.

Okay, time to haul by behind off to the airport. Next time I write in, it should be from San Francisco!
